The Conference on Tangible, Embedded, and Embodied Interaction (TEI) brings together the latest tangible tools and interaction technologies, current issues in human-computer interaction, and interactive art. In all the works presented at TEI, the focus is particularly on how digital and physical elements can be meaningfully combined in new interactive technologies.
As a first author of the paper "Mediating the Sacred: Configuring a Design Space for Religious and Spiritual Tangible Interactive Artifacts", Sara and her co-authors co-presented the paper at this year’s TEI in Cork, Ireland. For this paper, we reviewed 44 tangible interactive artifacts used in religious and spiritual contexts to explore how materiality and embodiment shape technology-mediated practices. By analyzing these artifacts through a material religion framework, we developed a design space that highlights key dimensions, such as bodies, things, places, practices, and backgrounds, to inform future HCI research and design in religious and spiritual contexts.
